About Us


Mission

To express the love of Christ by providing practical support for the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of those experiencing crisis pregnancy.

Offering help to young girls, irrespective of age, status, religion, race or the circumstances that they find themselves in. Most young women who find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy panic and they are afraid, depressed and very lonely. Waakisa reach out with the compassion of Christ showing His love to the young girl who seeks our help.

Waakisa are a community based charity located at Kitala, Uganda along the Entebbe Road between Entebbe and Kampala. We offer a safe confidential and compassionate environment, with unconditional love and acceptance.

To empower young women in our care to adjust to their situation and make plans for their future in a safe caring environment.


Aims and Objectives

Waakisa Patron

Professor Norman C. Nevin

Professor Norman C. Nevin We're delighted to have Professor Nevin as our patron. Norman Nevin is professor emeritus of medical genetics at Queen's University and an advisor to the government on gene therapies. He's also committed Christian and lay preacher.


Ugandan Board

Mr Patrick Wakkonyi - Chairman

Mr Patrick Wakkonyi - Chairman Patrick is an amazing character. He has a real heart for people, and for the lost. He spends one week a month travelling to the islands in Lake Victoria because he knows the need of the people to hear the gospel. Patrick is married to Sarah and cares for somewhere in the region of 14 children, not all of which are his own, but includes children he has taken in because they have lost loved ones and had no where else to go. He heads an organisation called ECM and teachs the members English and studies the Bible with them, helping them also set up small business. Patrick is a very busy man and still has time to oversea the work of Waakisa


Mrs Allen Ssekkade - Patron

Mrs Allen Ssekkade - Patron Mrs Allen has been a friend of Waakisa Members from Northern Ireland for a long time. Her husband is the Bishop of Namirembe diocese and they are both very well respected within the community. Mrs Allen Ssekkade is the Patron of Waakisa Youth centre. She has a real love for her country and the children and believes that they are very important and they should be encouraged, Allen is an amazing lady with a wealth of knowledge and has been a great encouragement for Waakisa as we establish the work in Uganda.


Sam & Mary Matumba

Sam & Mary Matumba Sam and Mary are both teachers and they offer Waakisa a wealth of experience within the field of education. Mary was a headmistress of a primary school and Sam was a high school teacher. They have a family of 2 girls and 1 boy. They have a love for young people and are currently working in a boys orphanage at Mukono. Their work with Waakisa is on a voluntary basis, believing the importance of the youth of Uganda are their country's future and investing time with young people is very important. We are very privileged to have them on board.


Mrs Lydia Kamya

Mrs Lydia Kamya Lydia Kamya, is a very well respected Lady in the community, just like her name in the Bible Lydia a seller of purple Lydia’s loves the colour purple, we are very blessed to have Lydia on our Board. She has worked for years within the Government and has a vast knowledge of her country. She is a social worker and has a very big heart for young girls who have made choices in their lives which have caused major problems. She feels they are "her girls" and they deserve a second chance the deserve support and encouragement. She has established a training school for these girls encouraging them to train in the field of sewing, nursery school teachers and word processing. Lydia has a grown up family and has lost one precious daughter to HIV & AIDS.


Northern Ireland Board

Fred Hand - Chairman

Fred Hand - Chairman Fred Hand has travelled to Uganda over this last 10 years organising different building projects with EM Evangelical Ministries Northern Ireland. He loves the people of Uganda and the country. His desire would be to be able to work full time for the Lord in this work. He is married to Florence and has 2 daughters.


Valerie Duff

Valerie Duff Valerie is our main fundraiser, if any one can raise money for a worth while cause its Val, She has a very big heart, she loves the Ugandan people and she just loves the Lord. Val spent a few years on the mission field working in an Orphanage in Africa. Her desire is just to serve the Lord and help people in need. Over the years she has raised a considerable amount of money for the charity She just thrives on this work.


Mrs Jessie McFarlane

Mrs Jessie McFarlane Jessie is from Scotland she heads an organisation there called Prayer Chain Ministry, at any one time if prayer is needed she can have 800 women praying, that is just amazing. Jessie has a vast knowledge of mission. We are very blessed to have her on board our team.


Sharon Moore - Secretary

Sharon Moore - Secretary Sharon has visited Uganda now for 6 yrs she just loves the people and the place it is her 2nd home. Her desire is to see young people come to know the Lord. Through this work in schools and at the care centre, she believes young people are very special they deserve Good information to help them make healthier and more informed choices. Sharon is married to Paul and they have 4 grown up children. She has moved to Australia to live and is now the charity’s International representative.


Stuart & Sharon Hamill

Stuart & Sharon Hamill Stuart and Sharon Hamill have come on board this summer to the management committee. They have a wealth of knowledge working with young people and training youth workers. Sharon works for the Church of Ireland in their youth Department. Stuart is an expert in IT and designs web site. They both love Uganda and have so much to give this charity.
